Moon Gang
Bali
Moon Gang is a boutique retreat in Ubud designed by YSG Studio, bringing together hospitality, landscape, craft, and a highly expressive material language. Working with Indonesian makers and artisans, the project combines locally sourced and repurposed materials with playful, sculptural forms. BYO Living contributed custom furniture pieces using recycled plastic, translating YSG Studio’s distinctive design language into functional elements for the hotel’s communal and outdoor spaces.

The Challenges
The challenge was to translate YSG Studio’s organic and unconventional furniture forms into a structured system that could be consistently produced without losing their expressive character. At the same time, the pieces needed to perform within a tropical hospitality environment, requiring a material solution that could balance form, durability, functionality, and the project’s sustainability approach.

A structured geometric weave developed with contrasting widths and colours of recycled plastic. Its staggered rhythm brings a playful quality to the furniture while the repetitive construction provides the consistency and durability needed for everyday use.

The Solutions
Recycled plastic was explored not as a compromise, but as an expressive material capable of supporting both structure and form. Through material experimentation and weaving, BYO Living developed furniture that follows the project’s curved and playful geometries while providing the durability required for everyday use. The result brings together an engineered system, organic expression, and reclaimed material within one cohesive design language.
