Dame @ National Museum Singapore
Singapore
For Dame at the National Museum Singapore, BYO Living developed a bespoke woven installation in collaboration with Hui Designs. Inspired by the sculptural geometry of the original design, the installation combines natural materials, intricate weaving, and integrated lighting to create a sculptural centerpiece for the café.

The Challenges
The installation required a new approach to weaving, translating a complex sculptural form into a stable woven structure while working entirely with natural materials. The weaving also needed to interact with lighting, requiring careful consideration of material density, fiber finishes, and light transmission within a compressed timeline.

A structured open-grid pattern balances woven density with controlled openings, allowing light to filter through the natural fibers. The pattern supports the sculptural form while creating subtle layers of texture, shadow, and glow.

The Solutions
BYO Living developed the piece through rapid prototyping, custom drawings, material testing, and weaving mock-ups. Different weaving densities, knot tensions, and fiber finishes were tested to achieve the required form, structural integrity, and lighting effect. Close coordination with Hui Designs allowed the design to be refined and approved within one month before production.
